DMM Great Britain Tour 1999
Curt’s Journal

Stirling Castle

Our warm-up made it obvious this would be our best concert so far.  It turned out to be our best concert ever.  Everybody could hear each other (except tubas).  I grinned all through the concert.  All solos...were superb, musically sensitive yet confident.  Band dynamics were awesome, as were intonation and balance...  My favorite was Gently Flows.  It represented a culmination of all the learning of the past two years in quality of sound.  The band followed so well.  It heard lines of harmony I've rarely heard.   Sound was exceptional.  They played up to their maximum potential and what a place to peak!

All 52 regular DMM members are integral to the success of the band, and, as in every musical group several of those musicians play a key role.  Without their leadership and confident solo work, our band would not have achieved such musical progress over the past two years, and our UK concert tour would have been impossible.  And our vocalist, Maureen, was a pro throughout the tour.  No matter the heat, the wind, the aroma (in Chester), the setting, or the acoustics, Maureen sang beautifully and added elegant variety to our instrumental music.  We're very happy, Mo, that you were able to join the tour.

The 15 "band-aids" were as integral as the 32 musicians to the musical success of the Britain tour.  From the very first concert, our band aids took over the physical work of setting up the band, welcoming the audience, photographing the concerts, and then loading the bus afterwards.  The efficient crew should turn professional!  On behalf of all band members, thank you.

The social aspects of the tour were equally as memorable.  Jhande and I feel we have achieved a close friendship with all 45 participants.  I have described the adventure to friends as "15 days of laughter, followed by a further week of fun."  Many thanks to all of those who took the microphone to give commentary or humour along the way.

The organization of the tour took two years and the assistance of many people, mainly Hugh Martell, Jhande and the DMM Board of Directors.  Out of the million details, 99% were perfect.  The few problems with reservations, etc., were minor and easily remedied, for the most part, thanks to the cooperation of the group.  A thank-you should also go to Irene Dolan and Rick Wolfe at Maverick tours, who acted as the local liaison with the British travel company.
