FROM THE MUSIC DIRECTOR
This is already an extraordinary spring term, and there is more to come. I trust everyone will be able to attend the summer term, three Tuesdays in July plus one concert July 15. By the way, please invite your musical children, grandchildren, and other family members to the summer term.
I will be handing out the summer music on June 16, before the 3-week break. The folder will consist of interesting familiar tunes that we have played before. On the last day of the summer term, July 21, I will hand out all new music for the fall DMM folder. Summer attendees will get a head start. But before the summer, we have some outstanding band activities coming up. Check out all the details.
REHEARSAL AND EVENT CALENDAR
REHEARSALS
Current rehearsals go through to June 16, then summer term runs July 7, 14, 21 in the back hall of the South Delta Recreation Centre.
RECORDINGS
On May 19 and 26 all our fine work of the past months will be indelibly recorded on CD. The finished product will be available during the fall term. We believe that a donation of $15 will be required to meet our costs Ð this is a cost-recovery project, not a fund-raiser. It is a magical moment when you first hear yourself on a recording. You will undoubtedly be so proud of the final product that youÕll want to send it to all your relatives for Christmas!

three selections to end the concert.
- The concert will finish around 8:30 or 8:45 which means we will continue our evening with a short rehearsal in the band room.

June 2 Genesis Theatre Concert Order

June 13/14 Ladner Bandfest:
- DMM performance: We perform at 11 a.m. on Sunday morning, June 14! Please arrive no later than 10:15, and prepare to set up on the Show Stage at 10:30.
- Concert Order is as follows: Don Pedro (Marg), Silver Shadow (Marg), Ashokan Farewell (Curt), Rhythm of the Winds (Curt), Magnificent Seven (Marg), Waltz #2 (Curt), ABBA (Curt).
- We need 100% attendance for this concert, since we want to do our best in front of our musical colleagues. See the schedule on page 3.
- The Committee chose the 11 a.m. time slot for two reasons: 1) we have always taken the prime 2 p.m. time at past Bandfests, so felt we should not dominate this prime Sunday afternoon time, and 2) all the DMM volunteers will be finished their performance early in the day so they are free to carry on with their other duties.
- Volunteers: The Bandfest is hosted by the Delta Music Makers. There are volunteer positions available throughout the whole festival, from setup early Saturday to take-down at 5 p.m. Sunday. Setup, stage crew, parking director, ticketed storage, coffee sales, popcorn sales, are examples of positions that

- need filling. BRING YOUR FRIENDS TO ASSIST Ð theyÕll have a lot of fun!
Anyone who works two shifts in a row gets a ticket for lunch from the TOOBÕs. See Ann Bates for volunteer sign-up forms for you and your friends.
June 16 Rehearsal:
- Our exciting spring activities will be finished, so we can catch our breath during this final spring rehearsal. But this is an important rehearsal, as we transition from our many spring concerts to a more sedate summer session.
- Not only will we finally be able to look at some of the other music in our folders, but also, Margaret and I will be handing out music for the summer term, and collecting a few pieces from our folders.
YUKON AND ALASKA MUSIC JOURNEY
Hugh Martell and Curt Jantzen continue to work on the details of our exciting 2010 music tour of the Yukon and Alaska. Unfortunately we cannot confirm dates or pricing yet, since the cruise lines have not yet announced them for 2010.
A detailed itinerary will be sent out to all DMM members by e-mail in the next week. It contains colour photos of some of the sights, as well as additional detail about attractions and side trips. I will copy some black and white versions for distribution to those without e-mail.
Hugh would like to collect a $100 deposit from all interested people in June. So please be prepared to write a $100 per person cheque to ÒMartell Tour and TravelÓ on June 9 or 16. The collection of the deposits will tell us whether we have enough musicians and total passengers to make this tour viable. A few musicians from other bands have expressed interest. Additional people may join the tour at any future time, depending on space available.
