A quintet of professionals gave a concert in the huge St.
Mary's Church in Penzance, the evening of July 28th. Pieces included
Mozart, Schumann, Brahams, Bartok, Lerner & Lowe, Joplin and Gershwin.
Outstanding was the performance of Ray Carpenter, now retired over 35
years as Principle Clarinetist with the Bournemouth Symphony
Orchestra. A violinist, a pianist and oboist and a young tenor with
a tremendous voice added much to the programme. The young lady who
played the oboe also sang. I felt I was at a pops
concert with the symphony. Another highlight of my trip to
Britain.
