Ladner Bandfest 2007
The Third Annual Ladner Bandfest was Saturday and Sunday, June 9 and 10, 2007. Ladner Bandfest is a festival of adult community bands performing for the public and for each other, held in Ladner, a small village outside of Vancouver BC, at the mouth of the Fraser River. Bands are welcome to inquire for more information about performing in the Bandfest. Audience members are welcome free of charge! Imagine the positive impact of 500-600 enthusiastic adult band
members descending on Ladner on a weekend in June, bringing friends
and family members, and attracting an audience of hundreds! This is
exactly what happened on June 12, 2005 and June 11, 2006. For 2007 the Organizing Committee has extended the Ladner Bandfest to a full weekend. So this year, as many as 18 bands can be accommodated. Requests for registration have been coming from much further afield than the Greater Vancouver area, such as Lethbridge, Alberta and Orcas I., Washington State. The goal of the festival is to highlight the community band phenomena, and provide adult bands a venue to perform for each other. The camaraderie, networking, and musical enthusiasm that develop are important results of the event. Curt Jantzen, founder and music director of the Delta Music Makers, had the initial vision of an annual adult concert band festival. This vision has been brought into reality by an effective and efficient organizing committee, along with an army of volunteers. During the second weekend of June, that is, June 9 and 10, 2007,
the village of Ladner, in Delta, British Columbia, will become
“concert band central.” Adult Concert Bands from everywhere are
invited to apply, and information will be sent regarding
registration ($150 fee) accommodation, and directions. Each Concert Band receives 40 minutes stage time on one of our two stages, plus 30 minutes setup time on the stage, and a storage area for coats and instrument cases. Hotdogs, burgers, snacks, soft-drinks and water are available to purchase on site. Band members are encouraged to stay for the whole day and support the other bands. Members of the public are welcome, and entry is free. The Ladner Bandfest goes ahead rain or shine, since both stages are somewhat protected. Curt Jantzen, |
